
Communication, Culture, and the Amalfi Coast Sant'Anna Institute in Sorrento, Italy
ÐÓ°É is proud to offer a Signature Summer Program in Sorrento, Italy at the Sant'Anna Institute. This culturally rich program is designed to spark creativity through global study and the use of strategic social media, digital video storytelling, multimedia content creation, and the contemporary significance of the local tile mosaics while experiencing the Italian culture. Partnering with the Sant’Anna Institute, on the majestic cliffs of Sorrento, Italy, this program is offered exclusively during Summer 2027.
Program Overview
The five- week program includes coursework with cultural excursions and guided field experiences on location in Sorrento, Italy, the Amalfi Coast, and the Naples region of Southern Italy. Students will examine, explore, and experience the Amalfi Coast while actively learning the art and craft of strategic social media, content creation, storytelling, and historical relevance of the tile works that preserves the cultural identity of the Mediterranean region. This program is designed for undergraduate students seeking to enhance their strategic social media skills and dive into the historical identity and contemporary significance of the local tile mosaics while experiencing the Italian culture through active engagement, experiential learning, and studying abroad. 
Course work
This summer session is designed for students studying communication, marketing, and
strategic social media. The cross listed course can fulfill major and minor required
courses. Specifically, students can use COMM 452/IS 305 as a Communication or Marketing
elective, to satisfy the EL graduation requirement, and count the course towards the Strategic
Social Media Minor or Certificate. In addition, this course is approved to count as
IS 305 and could be counted as fulfilling the IS core requirement.
For the art course, students will enroll in ART 376: S/T Maiolica & Mediterranean
Motifs: The Tiled Art of the Amalfi Coast, a special topics course focused on the
history, visual language, and ceramic traditions of Southern Italy. Coursework will
explore Mediterranean decorative motifs, hand-painted tile traditions, surface design,
and the cultural significance of maiolica across the Amalfi Coast and Naples region.
This course is approved to fulfill the Fine Arts requirement of the JU general education
and EL graduation requirement.
Students will take both COMM 452/IS 305 AND ART 376 courses on this program.
Space is limited to 15 full time undergraduate academically qualified students in
good standing with the university.

Students taking both courses for a total of (8) credits will be given priority consideration in the program.
