School of Fine Arts & Humanities

Inquiry, imagination, and insight — for every field, every future.
The School of Fine Arts and Humanities at Ӱ fosters intellectual engagement and creative practice through the study of literature, media, visual and select performing arts. Our programs encourage students to critically examine the human experience, develop strong communication and analytical skills, and cultivate their artistic and scholarly voices.
Students benefit from close mentorship by faculty who are both accomplished scholars and practicing artists. Coursework is enriched by experiential learning—through performance, exhibition, research, and public presentation. Whether producing a short film, presenting original choreography, contributing to a literary journal, or preparing a gallery exhibition, students work in collaborative, interdisciplinary settings that support both individual exploration and professional development.
Students regularly engage in campus-wide events and public showcases, including the Fiat Lux Film Festival, the Walter Visiting Writers Series, curated exhibitions at the Alexander Brest Gallery, and contributions to student-run publications like the Aquarian Literary Magazine.
At its core, education in the fine arts and humanities is an education in the human condition. Through the study and practice of literature, visual art, dance, and media, students examine the ways people make meaning, express identity, navigate conflict, and imagine new possibilities. This work fosters not only creativity and critical thinking, but also empathy, ethical awareness, and cultural fluency. Whether entering careers in business, healthcare, education, or the arts, our students are equipped to understand and engage with the diverse perspectives, values, and narratives that shape our world — an essential skill set in any profession that serves people.
